I have such a deep love of this place, it's hard to describe. I've been going to Bar-B-Q King since I was 5 and I'm 48 years old. They have the best burgers, fried chicken, and onion rings I have ever eaten, and I've been to the Varsity in Atlanta and The Beacon in Spartanburg and even though I like them too, nothing compares to BBQ King. My wife was watching Diners, drive Ins and Dives here a while back and saw the dunked bbq chicken and she tried it the next time we went. She flipped out! She said if they charged $20 for it she'd still buy it. I usually get the 1/4 fry white, onion rings and a tea, the same thing I've gotten there since I was 5 and road in the back seat of my brothers '63 red Impala. Many years later when I was at West Meck we'd skip out at lunch and go to BBQ King. We never got caught. The teachers were hanging out busting people at Hardee's on Little Rock. We'd have a great lunch and go back happy ready for the rest of the school day. Try it if you haven't yet, it's a wonder to behold!
Finally went for the first time after being on food network and passing by many times. The burger wasn't special, but the onion rings were about the best you can get. The suprise was the barbeque chicken! I naturally thought it was weird being fried chicken and dunked into a sauce, but wow it was great. Crispy crust with a delicious wet barbeque taste! Try it. Oh, is old looking.
After seeing BBQ King featured on The Food Network, my husband and I finally went to see if it proved up to the hype. I got a bbq plate, and my hubby tried the bbq chicken. Didn't hate it, but definately wasn't the best bbq I've ever had. The hushpuppies and onion rings weren't even hot, you could tell they had been sitting a little while. My husband wasn't crazy about the bbq sauce on the chicken either. Maybe we just went at a bad time because there were not a lot of cars there when we went (5 o'clock Sat. night). We do, however, want to give it another try. The car beside us got the Po boy burgers, and they looked really good. The service was fast and friendly.
