| About: | Southend, a popular regional chain, feels right at home in, of course, Charlotte's Historic South End. The atmosphere is warmly industrial, and the selection of house-brewed beers has something for everyone, from the crispest of blondes to the darkest of stouts, and all the pales, reds, and browns in between. The food menu will please everyone as well, featuring everything from pizza and pasta to fresh seafood, sandwiches, and smokehouse specialties. Don't miss the garlic-rubbed pork tenderloin or the signature barbecue meatloaf. Southend hosts exciting events from time to time, including biker rallies and live music. I've been to this restaurant twice now - once when it was South End Brewery (it has changed) and last week where it's called Woods on South. For those keeping up, the owner reportedly hasn't changed - they just did a face lift and added a well-known chef, Marvin Woods (hence the name change).
So, first time I went, it was okay. I got the steak - had to be one of the worst steaks I've ever eaten. Of course, it's not a known "steakhouse", so I just shrugged it off and thought to myself that perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing, since everyone else there enjoyed their meal.
However, after last week's experience, I swore I will never go back. First off, our service was horrible! Our waitress was not friendly at all and seemed to carry an attitude towards us the entire night. Then, we get our food and my girlfriend's burger plate had mold on the onion! No joke! So did my buddy's girlfriend - she had mold on the onion too!! My buddy's chicken sandwich was undercooked. Then, to add insult to injury, the lettuce on all of the salads was all welted and bad. We told the manager, he apologized intently, but then did nothing about it. He didn't offer a free appetizer, dessert, or comp anything off of the bill! The girls had to pay extra for the salads that neither of them touched! We were very, very disappointed in the service.
For me, it's two strikes and you're out. I'll never go back there, no matter what goes in that building. I'm done - there are MUCH better restaurants in the Charlotte area to check out.
Awesome Place Just to Relax/Enjoy: High prices, good food, good brew. Did I mention high prices? Don't get me wrong, the food and beer is good, but their prices lead me to believe they think they're alot better than they really are. Maybe that's why the Lake Norman location failed
It's addictive!: This place is addictive to say the least. My first visit I played it safe with just a salad and tried the "Southend Blonde Light" beer. Yummy! The atmosphere is warm ad fun however if you are looking for a quite place to sit and have a quiet romantic dinner without interruptions, this may not be your cup of tea. The Pork Tenderlion just melts in your mouth and te Southend Sampler is something you gotta try with a beer. Will come back soon enough!
