We went to the Barn expecting a fantastic meal based upon reviews we had read about the restaurant. When we were the only people in the restaurant at 6:30, I should have known something was wrong. The food was terrible. To begin, the salad consisted of brown, wilted lettuce with one piece of onion and one tomato quarter on a plate with salad dressing. The entrees were overcooked and bland and the twice backed potato was tasteless. The decor is even old and falling apart complete with a loud, rumbling air conditioner that makes the place seem like a cheap hotel room. Although the service was acceptable, it wasn't what you would expect from a "fine dining" establishment. The waitress actually blew out the candle on our table in the middle of the meal leaving us with candle smoke blowing in our faces while we tried to eat. I would definitely not recommend this place.
My husband and I decided to avoid the Saturday Valentine's crowd and went to dinner on Friday. We chose to go to The Barn because it had been a few years since we had been there. This was a special night because my husband had been away for two weeks and missed our anniversary while he was gone. We were at first disappointed because the staff seemed to be a little behind with seating and service. We were seated about 20 minutes after our reservation time and waited another 15-20 minutes at our table with no acknowledgement from our server.
My husband went to let someone know that we were waiting. The owner, Bernard, heard about our wait and became our server for the evening. We were impressed with his concern for customer service. Most places would just apologize and maybe give you a free dessert. Bernard salvaged the evening and turned it into a wonderful experience. We were not expecting to have such top notch service nor to be compensated with anything. Bernard even gave us a complimentary bottle of wine. We are grateful for his attentiveness to his customers.
We went to the barn today... a bit of an early valentines day present from my hubby to my son and I. We went in at 7:30pm on a Thursday evening. (all of ft bragg/pope has friday-mon off). We expected it to be busy but other than a going away party in a private room we were the only customers. Don't get me wrong, the waitress was awesome, but the food was very low quality for the price paid. For drinks, a kids meal, 2 entrees, and an appetizers it came to 85 and some cents before a tip. I ordered the Veal Italiano, and it was nothing but tomatoes everywhere. It looked and tasted like someone put a cheap thin pork chop on some bread and drowned the whole thing in Prego. This place was extremely disapointing.
