Ella's of Calabash

We visited on a Saturday evening (big mistake). We were told the wait was 45 minutes. Ninety minutes later the hostess was saying it would only be a few more minutes. After watching several parties of same size who arrived after us, we inquired as to the problem. The hostess informed my husband she didn't really appreciate him asking and told him we would be seated as soon as possible. We asked for a manager (she too was obviously having a bad day) did arrange to have us seated (120 minutes total wait time). Our server was friendly, but appeared to wish she were somewhere else). When our food arrived, one plate contained raw fish and one had burnt shrimp. The slaw was, at best, less than average. The sweet 'hush puppies' were served with honey butter. We saw the manager as we were leaving and quite politely expressed our displeasure at the food and were told "you are free to eat anywhere else you would like". Needless to say, we will never enter Ella's again and will surely relay this story to all friends and family who visit Calabash.

Went for lunch today and was told it would be a 10 minute wait as they were quite busy but we were sitting in 5 minutes. The food was very good and the prices are very reasonable. Free basket of hushpuppies with honey butter right away also very good. My only complaint was the coleslaw which was a bit bland. Highly recomend for quality, price and service.

Having heard a lot about this establishment, we tried Ella's and sorry to say found it just average. One diner had Flounder which was good and another had minced deviled crab which was peppery and lacking, their comment was it seemed like a frozen entree. Prices (not the early bird) were only average and no salad was included with the meal.

My wife and I went to Ella's for lunch and ordered the lunch special. Very small portions and average food.
