I seriously do not understand the negative reviews here. We live very close to Shell's and eat here all the time. I get a to go breakfast here probably three days each week, and it is a great price and always wonderful. The worst I can say is depending on who is cooking I sometimes get less chicken than usual on my chicken tender salad. I don't know about the mustard based sauce as there are several varieties available and I have not tried that one. There is one grumpy waitress early in the mornings, but otherwise everyone is nice. It is the kind of place where they remember you and what you order, and are just very friendly. It's basically a diner, and pretty darned good!
My wife and her two brothers have been customer's of Shell's since they were teens in the 60's and 70's. Everytime we come to town we get takeout from Shell's but the last three times our order has been wrong. Items prepared incorrectly,things missing from the order etc. When we go back they do correct the order, but the last time will probably be my last time. On Dec. 27, we called in an order which was filled incorrectly. When I went to pick up the correction, I was treated with disdain, even though they did correct the order. When I asked to speak to a manager, I saw her look at me and say she was too busy. I then told the waitress of my recent experiences, and that perhaps since we've had to drive back so many times for correction, they might make some kind of concession. Having spent most of my working career in customer service, I wanted to see if they care.
The waitress said there was nothing she could do,so I guess I will now vote with my feet and not darken their door again. My recommendation would be to drive to Newton to the Three Little Pigs BBQ and get better food and people who care.
can't believe the consistency in getting orders wrong!! then they smack you in the face by correcting the order by simply removing condiments, etc and then serving you the same sandwich. not just a one time ordeal, so the last time was the last chance. there's too many good places that can fill the order right the first time.

I have to add that I am not a Hickory native. I have been going to Shell's pretty regularly for about five years. I do not know what it was like before then, so I can't comment on what the lifetime customers may be experiencing in comparison to previous ownership.
