Every chance we get to go to the Flying Frog Cafe we do, it's that good. The have a fun and funky menu that has something to please everyone. Great service and GREAT food. Fun place to watch people or have a private dinner.
In the past couple of years, I have probably had lunch at the Frog a dozen times, been served by several different people of the waitstaff, and have only had positive experiences. I am so impressed with the food, as well as the service, that I have treated at least four friends to lunch. Granted, I don't have vast experience with the menu, as the first few dishes I ordered were so wonderful that I couldn't discipline myself to sacrifice one of my favorites in order to broaden my epicurean experience. (I highly recommend the chicken salad croissant with a side of potatoe salad. Ooh, and the hummus, a recipe of one of the owners, so much in demand he has had to market it in organic grocery stores.) The few times that my job has allowed me the time to go out for lunch, the Frog, out of all the well-known restaurants in Asheville, has been my treat to myself. Aw, geez, all that talk about chicken salad and hummus... if it weren't 12:20 am, I'd be compelled to head that way right now, even thirty miles away....
The menu looked interesting, unfortunately we never got to order anything from it. My friend and I walked up were searching for a hint on whether or not to seat ourselves. We flagged down a waiter and he pointed to his shirt, which said please seat yourself. I thought this was a good start, server has a sense of humor, and we sat ourselves. 10 minutes later, after no one came over to serve us, we left. Made eye contact as we left with the same server and not a word was said. Now, that's all to say here.
