Nc2 75 Cleaners

Bad experience at NC $1.99 Cleaners / Long Shoals: I took my $400 Perry Ellis long wool top coat into NC $1.99 Cleaners last month and did not look at the coat until a week after picking it up when I was on my way to the airport. The center back seam was torn from the bottom all the way up to the shoulders. I was amazed that they would press it that way and put it into a plastic bag and not say a word. I took it right back and was told "things happen". The manager reluctantly agreed to resew the coat herself. I was wrong to assume she knew what she was doing. After 2 attempts to pick up the repaired coat it was finally "ready". She had sewed it by hand and to the lining. It was all bunched up and totally unwearable. I took it to a seamstress for an estimate and she could only laugh at the repair job. She quoted me $10 to undo what she had done and $10 to repair it right. Based on the amount of work and the value of the coat I thought this was reasonable. When I spoke to the NC Cleaners manager she said she would ask her boss, Richard Harder, if he would cover the repair and call me right back. Today after not hearing back for 2 weeks, I went back to the manager and she said Mr. Harder had refused to pay because I had taken the coat out of the store before reporting the damage. She said she had done me a big favor in not charging me for her "repair" job so what was my beef. I told her I just wanted my coat back in the same condition I had left it in. I asked her why she hadn't called me back and she said she had been "too busy". I asked for the number of the owner and she said she didn't have one. After realizing how rediculous that sounded she admitted she had a number but "was not allowed to give it out". She said he was usually there Friday mornings and I could stop again and talk directly to him. I have already made seven trips to the cleaners and 2 to the seamstress. I guess my future business and their reputation is not important enough for them to stand by their work. The could have very easily salvaged both by paying for the repairs.
Just wanted everyone to know what kind of a business they run and to be cautious about what, if anything, they leave in their care.
