I recently went to Gasthaus zur Elli and as usual had the best time in a long time eating out. It's like going to a family members home for dinner! It's so cozy! You meet new people and make friends with them.I wouldn't want to go if it didn't take a while. I can't say that about ANY other place I've ever been to! And I can't say enough good things about Wendy. She's just the best! I love her to death! The food is out of this world no matter what it is, so there's no need for a menue. Everyone needs to try this place! I look forward to going back as soon as possible. I live in South Aiken and it's well worth the drive. People drive from all over to go there. If you go, you'll easily see why!
Ate at Wendy's restaurant again this past Saturday night for my cousin Angie's birthday. Wendy takes great pride in her food & restaurant and it shows. The food is wonderful, the atmosphere is fun, and the staff are always friendly. We had a great time.
To address Woodyson's bad review below:
1. It is a NICE German restaurant. Not a FANCY German restaurant. It's a casual, friendly, atmosphere. Wendy makes everyone feel like family.
2. The decor is Wendy's own, it's her restaurant, and I think it's charming.
3. Yes, no menu, the server will tell you what Wendy is cooking for that night. Don't worry, it's alllll good. And the servers do know what is available.
4. Yes, it isn't cheap. You get what you pay for and what you get are wonderful huge portions of fantastic home-cooked German food, plus salad, soup and dessert included.
5. Yes, plan to be here for at least two hours, maybe three. People come here to relax, socialize, have fun, and enjoy the food (that is made to order).
My recommendation to Woodyson - yes, avoid. Take yourself to Morton's for an overpriced steak and other stuffy people.
Check out the other reviews here. People come from all over to eat at Wendy's place. Try it once and you'll know why.
Thank you, Wendy and staff for never disappointing. :):)
This was the absolute WORST restaurant experience of my life. And that is the absoulute truth. I was led to believe that this was a nice German restaurant. So with this mindset I tried to dress appropriately. However,
I find that no one else is and the decor looks and smells like a 13 year old basement. I expected the typical German music but instead was greeted with the wonderful sounds of David Hasselhoff. When it's time to order I find there is no menu. I have to base it off what the server remembers which is not much. We also order wine which I recognize is typically marked up in a restaurant. But when we get it, it still has a price tag of $5.00. Oh and you have no idea of the prices since the don't tell you until you get your bill so that you won't get up since it is so overpriced. So we eat, which was just ok for parts and others almost unpalatable. Then after 2 hours waiting between finishing the meal and waiting on the bill, I find out oour food was around $60.00 and the $5.00 wine was not $25.00. Those are the kind of prices you pay at a nice restaurant with atmossphere. More of a whole in the wall that is serving akin German cafeteria food. Recommend AVOID at all cost.
