| About: | The atmosphere at Wasabi is island-chic, with lots of bamboo and huge paper umbrellas, like the kind you stick in a tropical drink. A long sushi bar runs the entire length of a wall so you can watch chefs prepare your sushi in front of you. Wasabi has won the "Best Sushi" category from the Charleston City Paper numerous times and after dining there it's easy to see why. Rolls are prepared with fresh ingredients in innovative ways. However, sushi and rolls are only a part of the menu. You can also choose from appetizers and a full list of entrees prepared on the hibachi which include filet mignon, chicken, shrimp, scallop, or salmon, as well as a number of teriyaki and tempura dishes. At night, the restaurant turns into a club with DJs, live music, and free-flowing drinks. |

My wife and I have been to the new Wasabi in Summerville twice. It has good and bad points...
Good:
+ sushi was quite delicious and I thought the portions were good-sized.
+ their hibachi filet mignon was some of the best steak I've ever had. It was awesome.
Bad:
+ It's very slow. Prepare to spend at least 2, maybe 2.5 hours there--even if you're seated as soon as you walk through the door.
+ Service was terrible. The first time we went I attributed it to inexperience because the restaurant was brand new. The second time there was no excuse.
+ The hibachi chefs are very hit and miss. One guy in there puts on quite a show--several others seem very bored and just go through the motions.
+ They put bacon in the fried rice--I guess to be unique--but I don't like it at all.
I'm glad we finally have hibachi Japanese in Summerville, but to be honest I'm waiting for the other, currently under-construction Japanese place (at Berlin Myers and 78) to open.
By far the best Halloween party ever. My friends and
I went there for dinner before the party starts. The
food was excellence and service was outstanding. Since we all dressed up Tommy (general manager of Wasabi) bought us a round of sake. We ended up stay there the whole entire night. Its always good time at Wasabi rather its dinner or after hours. They really do an excellence job.
I am from summerville and I heard they are opening up a new Wasabi in summerville so i decided to give the downtown location a try. I am very impress with the level of service and quality of the food. I cant wait for the summerville location to open up!
