| About: | All three of The Crab Shack's locations; downtown, West Ashley and Folly Beach, are hot favorites with locals and visitors alike. The hungry tourist who wanders in off the streets of downtown Charleston has struck it rich: a converted 18th-century warehouse that dishes up the best in local seafood. The decor is nothing spectacular, but who cares! Roll up your sleeves and dive into a bucket of fresh Steamed Clams, spoon up some Lowcountry Frogmore Stew or savor the delicious Charleston Crab Cakes, made up of more crab than cake. |

Tourist trap. Ordinary food. key lime pie tha is actually common lemon condensed milk recipe, no lime flavor or color, dry. Not very clean. A real letdown.
Happened on this place during the late afternoon with aching feet and parched throats. We also happened to have two small dogs. The two tables that opened onto the street looked most inviting. We entered to ask if the dogs would be welcome and were told that the kitchen was closed so the crew could get a break from a very busy Memorial Day Sunday but if beverages and a seat was all we required then the dogs would be welcome too.
Our server went out of her way to make us feel welcome. And even though it was also her break time she returned frequently to check on us. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious.
We returned the next evening for a meal together with our dogs and children and got the same table with a different server. He was friendly, funny and attentive. There was a goof up with the order but the response was speedy.
The food was honest and properly prepared. Nothing we had was canned or frozen which in this day and age is amazing.
Given the variety of styles and choice available in Charleston I was pleased that I found a restaurant that fit my needs so well.
Really liked the atmosphere. Ryan, at the bar, had some good suggestions of sites to see and things to do. Such a great personality too. Our waiter that night, Collin, really paid attention to detail, and we never had to ask for refills on drinks, he was right on the money as far as suggestions for dinner. The she-Crab soup was the best I have ever eaten. This will be on our short list of places to eat in Charleston.
