As someone else said, I found this place by accident. Hungry one drive from FL to NC, I pulled off Interstate 95 Exit 57 when I saw their billboard. Now when I am driving that way, I always plan to eat at Dukes!!!
The prices and food are great and you never walk away hungry. Last trip from FL to CT I stopped with my wife, who is not the BBQ fan and even she loved it.
I have definitely acquired a taste for Dukes BBQ over the past 50+ years and LOVE it! This is a great deal for a fine meal. Fancy it is NOT, but I do not want to pay for fancy ( I have and it is over-priced!) Some of the tenderest, chunky pork BBQ with a delicious mild mustard sauce beside a serving of perfectly cooked rice with a unique (and habit forming) hash are the main attraction. Several vegetable to choose from (try them ALL a spoonfull at a time! The home-made potatoe chips, and fried chicken just add to that. Some southern deserts like banana pudding and cake are there, but I fill up on the meat myself. Lots of fried food options, all good, all not for everyone (o-rings, corn fritters, chicken, cracklin, more) (I eat and take my Lipitor, thank you.) It is so good, I eat up in the restaurant, then get a few take out trays to go to my parents house. They also love it and started me out on Dukes BBQ as a child. It may have been a different Dukes back then, but it had similar food. This is one of my all-time favorite places to eat. If I had more money, I would sponsor one for my new hometown of Saint Marys, Ga. (there are several nice lots available - one by the Super Walmart and one by the US Post Office come to mind quick, hint - hint). I have a fairly large amount of experience in eating and Dukes BBQ is southern cooking at a great value.
EAT WITH CONFIDENCE! Makes me hungry just thinking about them... In fact, I was doing a websearch to get their phone number and see what the holiday hours are when I came across this review page. I would write more, but few would listen. I did, however, respond to a few of the reviews here before even writing this one. So don't be surprised if you read more reviews and see a comment by myself.
Not your traditional dining experience..........we found this place TOTALLY by accident & NOW we plan our trips from ohio to florida around eating lunch or dinner at Dukes !
When you go in make sure your hungry, there is a traditional "school lunch line" set up (see picture) with a buffet of some of the best food you have ever eaten !
I am from the south and though there are a ton of BBQ joints to choose from
NO ONE else give you this much food for the $$$$ !
If you are offended by a ROLL of paper towels on your table (with an Entire loaf of bread as well) , then this ISN'T the place for you !
This isn't a place with an ala carte menu, its an all you can eat joint
(with some of the best BBQ I have ever eaten !)
Do yourself a favor and make a trip there ......you will probably do like us & time your trip around a stop at Dukes' !
