I was a little cynical walking in because of the cheap neon beer signs and the awkward entrance. But from the moment I sat down until we reluctantly walked out the door, it was a wonderful experience. Great food, good service, and reasonable prices. Did I mention the food? It really was mouth-watering. One of my top 3 favorite restaurants in Summerville!
This place was recommended by a good friend; we have been there several times, the services has been very consistant, The food is good an the taramisu is wonderful. We tried the chef's special seafood lasgna. It was devine. the pasta was cooked very well, and the sauce was to die for you didn't want to take a drink of water you wanted to savour the tastel. The taste that it left in your mouth you had to just savour. The young chef came out to our table and shook our hand and saind thank you for our compliment which was very well deserved. The escargo was tender and flavourful, Don't shy away from the specials, you never know where you will find a diamond! Keep up the work chefs and we will continue to come back, I have found that if yo treat the waitstaff with respect you will get better service and have a better meal. Isn't that what we all want respect.
We were especially looking forward to this meal. We are transfers from the same area of NY, and there are many good Italian restaurants there.
Let me start with what was good, in order of best to least. The waitress, Chocolate Hazelnut Torte, Mozzarella en Carrozza. We highly recommend these.
What was not good, bad to worst, The entres, prices, cannoli.
I had the Combination Platter, hoping to have a taste of 4 of their dishes at once. Had I been blindfolded I could not have picked on item from another. They were all very bland. The only difference was the shape of the pasta. The saving grace on this was that they were not overly spicy.
I also ordered the cannoli. It was explained that the shells were purchased and the filling was made in-house per the owners instructions. Wikipedia describes cannoli as; An Italian pastry dessert. Cannoli consist of tube-shaped shells of fried pastry dough, filled with a sweet, creamy filling usually containing sweetened ricotta cheese (or occasionally, but less traditionally, mascarpone) blended with some combination of vanilla, chocolate, pistachio, marsala wine, rosewater or other flavorings. Sweet and creamy these were not. Any chef, Italian or otherwise, who tasted these would have sent an apology for not having any that evening instead of letting them go out.
As for the prices - my opinion is that they should be halved, period.
I hope that they manage to keep a good staff, there are so many other places to get better food at better prices, even chain locations.
