The Village Grill is the best place to eat in Abbeville. From the Rotisserie Chicken to the French Dip it's wonderful. The chef makes his specials daily and although there pricey over dinner your best bet for the specials are to get them at lunch time for a better price. The Soups are made from scratch as our the desserts and wow you gotta try the cheesecakes! Friday & Saturday nights expect to wait. The Staff is very friendly and very helpful with making your dinner choices!
The Village Grill is a wonderful place to eat. My family and I try to make the 45-min. drive to eat there every week. The service is great (it has been since even the first time we came in), but the food is perfect. I live in Greenwood, where there is a seemingly never-ending list of restaurants, yet still, nowhere GOOD to eat. The Village Grill is one of the very few places I enjoy eating at.
The appearance from the outside isn't very eye-catching, and the inside isn't particularly glamorous. But, in my opinion, the professional-relaxed atmosphere is much better than a very expensive, stuffy restaurant (See Pascal's of Greenwood). The Village Grill focus less on appearances and more on the food itself.
They have weekly or semi-weekly specials based on what is fresh/in-season and available, and ordering from the specials-board is almost always the way to go. But the menu options are always great too. I personally recommend the rotisserie chicken, prime rib, steak dianne, or if you don't have as much of an appetite, the peel-and-eat shrimp is a great option. All of the dishes are priced reasonably (less than 25 dollars for their most expensive dishes, save holidays). Their dishes are usually pretty simple, but the chef(s) absolutely know how to cook food. Their specials are always very well-balanced in terms of flavor. They use organic food and open-range, quality meats when they can. I've never taken anyone to eat there who did not enjoy their food thoroughly. They also have a dessert list that changes almost as often as the specials. Nearly all of their desserts are made completely in-house (including sauces and ice-creams) and are typically very rich and satisfying.
Service at the Village Grill has always been good for me. I cannot speak for all people's experiences but the wait staff has always been very kind and helpful. Someone will usually go over the specials board with the table, explaining how each dish is put together. The focus here is clearly on making an enjoyable dining experience, without the stuffiness found in formal restaurants.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Village Grill to anyone stopping through Abbeville or to anyone in the area who has never had a chance to try it. The Village Grill consistently provides a great dining experience. It's a great place to eat and you won't regret it.
could have a better selection, but the food is great and service is fine too.
