I love the live music on Friday & Saturday night at El Maguey. We always have a great time - great food too!
After a few recommendations about the great food here, I went out on a limb to try El Maguey. Unfortunately, I have no idea why everyone thinks this place is so great. The food itself is not that flavorful. The tamale was dry, the taco was too greasy and served with white cheese, the rice was bland and the beans had a spoiled flavor. Needless to say we were not impressed. To top it off the meal costs a pretty penny, considering the place we normally frequent is less that what we paid here, with margaritas! The only thing this place has going for them, was their salsa. It was good, but I still miss my southwest mexican food! Now that's authentic!
The live music, is interesting at least. What would you think when someone says live music at a Mexican restaurant? Mariachi, maybe something with the ethnic background of the place, not some guy singing kareoke style Neil Diamond. It was like something out of Swingers.
Food is good, better than El Cancun on Carowinds. However, Rey Azteca in Lake Wylie is much better. Plus their live music matches.
