Burns dance studio has been a great place for my son to take class. He has been in the competitive group since 4th grade. He is now a senior in high school. He has been given many opportunities with the dance studio. He has won many dance scholarships and has taken classes from professional choreographers. As with any organization there are no 100% perfect situations. There isn't another dance studio in town that travels as much or competes on the same level as Burns Dance Studio.

Worst dance studio in Aiken!! The woman has no regard for a child's self esteem and her teaching style can only be classified as verbally abusive. I'm sure you can find another studio where your child could blossom in a supportive environment. It is time for her to retire. She is long past learning modern teaching methods.

I didn't know a dance teacher was supposed to boost self esteem. ( I kind of always thought that was a parent's job. ) I have known Rhoda for 22 years and for 21 of those years, had at least one child taking class from her and her faculty. Two of my three daughters are now dance majors in college. They are also stand outs among their dancing peers. If I was paying Rhoda for self esteem boosting, she might owe me money. What I was paying for was dance instruction and I got my money's worth and then some. Rhoda has put together an incredibly diverse and talented faculty as well. The experiences my kids have had being members of performing company will last a life time. If her behavior was less than stellar then I figure my kids learned some tolerance of less than perfect people. I guess I can sum it all up by saying my kids and I would do it all over again.

A dance teacher or any teacher should be a positive influence on a childs self esteem. You sound like one of those parents who only want their kids to look good with no regaurd to their feelings. I think a good teacher can do both. The bad review did not effect my opinion but your comeback certainly lets me know the review was true and does effect my opinion of the dance studio. I will only put my children where they can grow in all areas!

No,just a parent who doesn't rely on others to do my job. My children's feelings are my priority and teaching them tolerance of all types of people is a part of my parenting job. Yes, there are good teachers who can do both. However, I paid for my children to learn dance skill and ability, both of which they got in great abundance at bds. Life lessons do not only come in good experiences and good treatment from other people. There are lessons learned in everything and everybody in our and our children's lives. Let me know what experiences you have found where your children "can grow in all areas". Are your children affected by your judgement of others?

I actually took dance from there many years ago as a child. I never had Rhonda as a teacher, but I had her son Cory. He was sometimes verbally abusive and used to break his wand when he got irritated with the class. That is unacceptable behavior around children. Teachers of any kind should be role models for our children. Now that I have a child, I would not send her there.

Corey has never used a "wand" in class. Maybe you're thinking of a cowbell? Corey is never verbally abusive to the students. He always encourages us to do our best and also always tells us when we do something wrong. The purpose of BDS is to grow as a killer dancer not a person. If you wanna grow as a person take some self-better classes. Whoever you are, you must be thinking of a different studio.
