San Jose Mexican Restaurant

I ate at this restaurant over the weekend and I was pleasantly surprised. The decor inside is really nice; not cheesy mexican - almost mayan as my friend put it. Big booths with high backs, stylish decor on the walls.

The food was very flavorful, better balanced and seasoned than I'd had in a while. The salsa was chunky and not very hot; I was used to a more pureed version and a bit spicier. It was still good.

The service was uneven. We appeared to have a new waiter that I first thought was the busboy because of his fumbling and slow responses. We were his only table, and I noticed another section get seated over and over again with the wait staff scurrying around. As for us, we never saw our waiter again. Someone else refilled our water, and we had to ask for the check. No refills on chips, and my best guess is that it was his first day on the floor alone - or his last. I would try it again just for the quality of the food and surroundings, but service does not seem to be their strong point.

This is the best Mexican restaurant in Beaufort! Everything including the service was awesome!

I love this restraunt....its the best mexican sit down place in town. They are always nice and the food is always always good.
