Since relocating to Beaufort, my husband and I have made The Upper Crust our 'one night out' per week. Though the pizza is average, at best; the grinders (subs) and pastas are very good. The service is usually good - not excellent by any means - and polite (I can't necessarily use the word 'friendly' either as I have never been greeted with so much as a name from my waitres).
The wait at The Upper Crust is never under 20/30 mintues for your food, it doesnt matter if your a regular not (which really shouldnt make a difference). It can be assumed that the wait for your food has something to do with the multiple smoke breaks the kitchen staff takes during their shift, but that is just an observation.
The staff is very young, and it shows in the way they address you, their lack of couth while standing behind the bar talking about their personal lives (boyfriends, school, court ordered community service, ect.) as well as their overal all attitude towards eachother and their customers.
I have never once seen a manager, or mature adult (25 or older) working behind the bar, or overseeing the establishment.
All in all, The Upper Crust has decent food and a good family atmosphere. I think that the overall quality of your experience could be greatly improved if the owners/proprieters or manager(s) spent more time overseeing their kitchen and wait staff.
delicious, but i agree - prepare to wait...even if you are a regular.
Great food but you better not be in a hurry. I have been here for 9years and so have they. It has kids running it and they are there for their check, plain and simple. Takes a while to get your food and that is a daily thing and hasn't changed in 9yrs.
