Last night, my husband and I dined at Red Fish and had one of the most enjoyable dining expieriences together. Not only was the food, atmosphere, and wine great, but our server was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. She even helped us select a bottle of wine from Red Fish's retail wine store that we both liked, even though we have different tastes. For starters, I had the Blue Crab Dip and my husband had the Tuna Carpaccio. Both appetizers were phenomenal. For dinner, my husband tried the Seabass and said it was one of the best dinners he had ever had. I had the Filet Mignon and not only was it delicious; it was cooked to perfection. For dessert, we shared the Creme Brulee and the Saomoa Sundae. Just like the rest of our meal, the desserts were fantastic. I would recommend Red Fish to anyone visitng or living on Hilton Head. We enjoyed eveything so much, that we are going to take our server's advice and try Red Fish's sister restaurants, Alexander's and The Old Oyster Factory before we go home.

After vacationing in Hilton Head for the last seven years, my wife and I finally decided to go to Redfish. I don't have any idea why it took us so long to make our inaugural trip out there. I guess it is because we were already set in our ways of hitting our same old typical favorites. We had been told multiple times that it was the best restaurant on the island, so we decided we should probably go ahead and give it a shot.

We arrived at about 6:30 without a reservation. The hostess was polite and told us we would have a very brief wait. There is a little retail shop at the entry way, so we were able to shop around and look at the various wines they had from all around the world. Man they had all kinds of wine. Once we were seated at our table, a very polite young lady promptly came by to describe the daily wine, appetizer, and entree specials. She clearly articulated the ingredients of the food, and when she was finished, I really didn't even need to open the menu. I ordered a sea bass special that they were having for the evening, and my wife upstaged me by going for the surf and turf. Our server politely suggested wine pairings for our food, and we each had a glass. When the food arrived, we were both in awe. The presentation was so beautiful that my wife actually took a picture of our entrees with her phone to send back to our friends back home. There’s nothing like making your friends jealous of your beach vacation. Right? We ended up both sharing each others entrees and were amazed with how great all of the food was. If I was at home, I probably would have licked the plate. Overall, I will confidently say that this was the best overall restaurant experience my wife and I have had anywhere in Hilton Head in our seven years. The atmosphere was beautiful, the staff was polite and prompt, and the food was the best I have ever had. If you go to Hilton Head, don't make the mistake we made of missing this restaurant for as long as we did. Be prepared to spend a little money, but it’s worth it. Hey, you’re on vacation right?

Our other favorite restaurants on the island were Old Oyster Factory (Great food, service, and view, but has long waits sometimes) and San Miguel’s (Fun casual Mexican harbor side environment with great margaritas). Make sure to avoid Kingfisher and Crazy Crab. We have never been too impressed with those.

When visiting Hilton Head make sure that one of your first dining out experience is Red Fish. The atmosphere is superb. They have a fantastic wine bar, inside dining rooms and outside seating. If the weather is nice, take advantage of the outside seating. The knowledge of the service staff was highly impressive. And the food absolutely amazing. I had a few appetizers for my meal, my girlfriend had their ribeye special. And I don't think we have ever had a steak that was so tasty. My only regret is that we did not discover Red Fish until our last night on the Island. However our next trip to Hilton Head, Red Fish will be a place we dine at several times.
