My daughter has just completed her freshman year at St. Francis HS. It has been a good experience. She has performed so much better than she would have in a public school. The classes are small and the school is small enough that almost everyone knows everyone and the school administration also know all the students. It is not without its problems, but I have have found the problems to be much fewer and much less serious than I've seen and heard of in public HS.
The NCLB theory in the public school may work for a few students, but does not for most of them. The public school concentrates on the very bright kids (because of test scores) and the very needy kids (because it's a law and they have to). It is very difficult for me to understand why, but with the majority of kids being in the "middle" academically, why are these kids not being given more concentration. The only think I can think of, is that the group is too large and it's too hard. I guess this is what we get for basically a free education. I work in a public school, so I've seen these problems first hand.
In any case, that's why my child is going to St Francis HS. St Francis concentrates on all of the kids, not just a select few. Yes, it's lots of money, but worth it. I will continue to do whatever I can to ensure a better education opportunity for my child.
Thanks St. Francis!
