This ia a review about the great Sushi Chef Jack

35yrs ago in Doraville, Ga., a small Japanese restaurant called "August Moon" was the beginning for today's Sushi. They also opened up Haru Ichiban Japanese restaurant before opened up the first Sushi Avenue in Decatur about 12yrs ago. They always have good business and soon they expend the back room to add more seatings. In Decatur Square, there was another Sushi Bar own by another company. They came and gone rather quickly. About 4yrs ago, Sushi Avenue bought out this little sushi bar to make more room for their customers. So now we have two great sushi place to visit in Decatur. Sushi Avenue and Sushi Avenue on the square.

They are a little bit different in their menu line up between the two locations. The first Sushi Avenue have more kitchen item in night while the one on the square has more Sushi Neta to offer. I had been to both location at least three time in one week to put them to the test. They both were very impressive. Only thing I see that needs improve is the slow service due to shortage of waitstaff.

I took the advantage while the chef Jack is not too busy. I asked for Omakase, and I was very impressed. The neta was great!! I never have had Toro that was so sweet, Chu-Toro that was so creamy, Sea Bass that was so refreshing, Scallops that was so delicate, Anago that was so unique, Saba that wasn't fishy, Squid that wasn't tough etc., I could go on and on... Above all, I also get to try the classic Kan-Sai Oshi sushi(aka Hako Sushi) Only draw back to experience the Omakase is the chef stay very busy through out his entire shift. I would go early to experience this if I were you.

Chef Ryuichi (aka Chef Jack) heads this location along with his long time friend,Chef Nogcchi. They both were the original chefs back in the days in August Moon! Chef Ryuichi's return to Sushi Avenue has greatly change the scene. He brought back many original flavors back in the days and some of his new inputs from his travel.

I have had the pleasure of shared conversations and the few wonderful Omakase prepared by chef Jack. My last Omakase experience was back 5 months ago. He opened up my eyes and widen my horizon on the wonderful art of Sushi. It was totally traditional experience of sushi tasting arranging from light and delicate to full and rich flavor. He then on added flavor of his beloved home town and shared some new and innovated style of sushi with me. I really wish I have more time to find out what more Chef Jack can offer. I had tasted his cooking skills as well. They are surprising good and very thoughtful.

I had recently spoken with his sous chef Noguchi about Chef Jack along with many other guests who have had the experience with him. Everyone expressed their love and respect for him. I never witness such deep emotion connection of a chef with his guests. It was amazing. Now I learned about chef Jack new project in Rome, GA. I wish him the best.

Cool, affordable sushi lunch option: This place is cool - nice location, right on the Square in Downtown Decatur, really good, cheap options for lunch, and nice people. It's packed at lunchtime, and I'm sure it's busy for dinner, too, since the Square is a popular spot.
