| About: | This family restaurant is the kind of diner you remember from the old days. Highlighted in pink and blue, all the classical decor lines are intact. Breakfast and lunch are given over mostly to families and seniors, who linger over their meals the way diner denizens are supposed to. A decent selection of steaks, chops, seafood, and dinner entrees are available, but most opt for the simpler diner fare that dominates the menu. Try the French toast with sausage or bacon with coffee, tea or juice. |

Me and a couple of friends went to Georgia on vacation and this diner(Mariettas) was recommended. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. The customer service was very very poor, we were ignored when trying to get the attention of a waiter and the waitress that waited our table was terrible(her explanation was that she didn't feel well and the boss would not let her go home)spoke with the manager and he was not really any better. racial issues?? I think so... would not want to go again, if you want good service and good food, go to Paula Deen's in Savannah Georgia, it is worth it.
Over the years, my husband and I have heard only great things about Marietta Diner, but we'd never actually stopped in until recently. We had intended to eat there a few times before, but the line out the door was always insanely long. The line was long on the night we decided to eat there, so we just figured we would call in our order and get it to go.
I placed the order and was told to pick it up at the counter when I got there. So, when I arrived, I walked over to the counter where customers were sitting. I waited for a few minutes before I was motioned to a VERY busy employee area. I nearly slipped (three times) on a floor that didn't appear wet and a nearby waitress yelled (in a very nasty tone) "Ma'am, PLEASE be more careful!!"
I was eventually shown my order and told that I needed to take my ticket to the register up front and my order would be bagged while I was paying, and someone would bring it over to me. I got to the end of the lengthy line of people waiting to pay (while in the line, I was elbowed or shouldered by probably a dozen waiters--and, I was as much out of the way as I could be) and when I finally got to the register, I paid and told the cashier that my order was bagged and waiting at the counter behind her. She asked my name and said "Okay." And, then... nothing. I waited patiently, as I really didn't want to venture back over to that employee area (the floor, wet or not, was very, very slippery and there was such much hustle and bustle--I felt in the way). No one brought my order to me. A manager was on the phone behind the cashier (and next to the small counter where my order was sitting). He was chatting away and eating a pastry. After a few minutes, I fought the crowd and grabbed my own order (almost slipped again, despite being certain to walk VERY carefully).
I was so grateful to be leaving this place! (I did almost slip again, just as I was going out the door. Floor wasn't wet and my shoes had rubber soles; I think the tiles are just slippery.) It was just so crowded and insanely loud and the employees seemed so rude. There was also a strange and unpleasant smell of relish or sweet pickles in the place. It was so overwhelming that my husband could smell it on me when I got back in the car.
Now the food... It is overpriced for what it is. We kinda thought this going into it, but we figured it would be worth it, if it was really as good as people we knew had claimed. It wasn't. My husband ordered chicken fettucine alfredo (with a house salad and seafood bisque). I got baked lasagna parmesiana (with the same soup and salad). Two words: rubbery and bland. The soup wasn't bad, but the rest of it was pretty awful. My husband had to add quite a bit of salt and pepper to his pasta, just to give it any flavor at all (he eventually added some hot sauce, as well, because it was just so plain). He said the chicken was tasteless and rubbery, as was the pasta. The alfredo sauce was barely existent. My lasagna was very rubbery and bland, as well. I hate to waste food (particularly when I spend this much money on it), but I could only eat about 1/4 (if that) of my lasagna. It was just bad and not nearly what we'd expected.
We won't be returning.
I think part of the problem is that Marietta Diner offers too many menu options. I initially saw this as a good thing, but not now. I think that too many menu options can mean that the quality of each dish can suffer greatly.
Marietta Diner is overpriced but I thought I would have the quality of food and service worth the price , I got really disappointed when I had to wait almost 15 min for the server to get my order, once we ordered it took at least 20 min to get our meal,we've ordered just breakfast !!!,the omelet was barely warm and my potatoes had cigarette ash!! ; I'm wonder if the health department allows cigarette smoking while cooking,I can't imagine the condition and unsafe procedures in that kitchen.when I reported the incident to the manager he apologized and offered a free meal; we obviously did not accept it.
We will never return..
