I love Hong Kong Star, I've been going there since it opened and I recently moved back to the area and it is still the best around here hands down. I have had only one take-out order problem with them and they fixed it quickly and politely and gave me a free meal.
I am reviewing this restaurant on their obvious lack of customer service as a result of the response they left to the persons review with the broccoli situation. I hope that the employee who responded was not a manager, because anyone who would respond in such an argumentative way has no concept of service or professionalism. At this moment I was looking up nearby Chinese restaurants to place an order, and after reading that response I would order at just about any other place other than here. If this is the way they treat customers, I do not have faith in the quality of food they deliver. Furthermore, after reading some of the other reviews...I would find the authors of some to be suspect...but for the sake of accuracy, let me add that I did not eat here, and I'm basing this review on the level of service shown in the response.
I have been ordering from this restaurant for years because it is close to my house. The food is good....nothing special. I have never complained about anything until recently when I was charged $8 for broccoli (they charged me for a full meal without the meat). When I called and spoke to Michelle, she said that it costs them more money for quality food. It's not so much that I was charged, but that they would rather lose a customer than apologize for the mistake. There are other equally good Chinese restaurants in the area, so no loss.

Excuse me ma'am, but please do not post half truths which harm our reputation. The reality of the situation was, that you ordered a side order of broccoli, our employee mistook your order, placing it as a full order of broccoli. The charge was $8 because that is what a full order costs. But it seems you failed to mention that you did get an apology when you spoke with Michelle; in fact, your order was reduced to $4, which is the cost of a side order. So, in the end, we charged you $4 for a full order of broccoli, we hope you enjoyed it. In the future, please refrain from jumping to conclusions, and please take time to speak with our associates if you have an issue. We are sorry that your order was mistaken, but there is no reason for you to discredit our reputation, since we did correct ourselves.
Well I can see now I dont want to eat there! What ever happened to the customer is always right? You take the time to write back on someones review? $8 for Broccoli? After the mistake it should have been FREE!
