Yolanda's is located im an old sore in a very historic section on Rex Road. It is a dump, but the stylist knows her stuff and you pay for services rendered. I get a wash and set for $10 with a conditioner. I get a relaxer -- Affirm or Mizani-- for under $30 and the style is great and my hair is in perfect condition. Where else can U get professional attention for those prices. People who want weaves get them there too for a decent price. The negatives include the surroundings. U have a tv in a dark room when U are under the dryer, there is a separate little sink room where your hair is washed and conditioned, then the upstairs has a tv and U wait and wait for there is a walk-in policy and firs-com , first gets. Otherwise, I would have to pay at least $65 for the same treatment at JC Penney's I get for less than half at Yolanda's and for the same quality (for my hair, nothing else).
This place is not worth the time or money. Also, its quite a messy dump. No one leaves with a completed hairstyle, because all styling options are an extra charge to the price they quote! They actually try to charge 15 extra to flat iron your bangs!
I was visiting a friend in Rex and needed to have a relaxer. Yolanda's is a small town salon located in an old historic area; it is not a dump. I think she did an excellent job seeing that she was basically a one person operation when I was there. It was more like a family setting. I am from Baltimore and have paid $95 for a similar service in a fancy salon and it was no better than what Yolanda provided. For those who want to sit in a fancy shop and pay high prices, go somewhere else. Whenever I am in Rex, I plan to have her do my hair.
