Life Story of Marvin Gaye: C, no + no -. This play stars some unknowns and a few very talented has-beens or never-quite-weres who portray various characters in marvin gaye's life. one thing i look for in "re-inactments" is for the actors to remind you of the real people. While Keith Washington spoke like Marvin, he sang like himself. I was just waiting for him to bust out with "Kissin' You". The guy that played young marvin couldn't carry a tune in a bucket or do marvin's signature "hitch-hike" dance. Malisha Somethin' played Diana Ross but sounded more like Martha of M and the Vandells and looked like my aunt Alethea who does not favor Diana Ross at all. Tonya Blount sang her azz off but played both Tammy Terrel and Aretha Franklin and sounded like neither. The guy who did costumes was dressed to a tee but the whole cast looked a hot mess. Michael "Flash" Turner from the Five Heartbeats had a little part and he was funny. The girl that played Tina Turner said five words but she played her part better than anyone else. All in all the play was aiight but would I recommend it? Only if tickets were $15 or less.
