Atlanta's most famous invention is also the world's most popular soft drink and nowhere is this more clear than at this unique downtown museum. The new 20-acre (eight-hectare) complex features a 4D cinematic experience, and the largest collection of CokeA(R) memorabilia ever assembled, including a pop-culture gallery. The museum draws many visitors, and features an exhaustive look at the history, manufacture and distribution of Coca-Cola. Perhaps the most popular phase of the tour is the final stop, where guests are invited to sample vast and various recipes of Coke as it is marketed throughout the world. Tickets may be purchased through their website.
Sylestia wrote an excellent review. We agree with her 100%.
I would like to add that my gps also screwed up and dumped me at the front entrance and NOT were you would need to park. I drove ahead aimlessly and went around the block so that the gps would recalculate. Then I paid attention and by some miracle we saw the entrance to the parking garage. We got a primo parking spot on the second level which is the level you want to walk out to get to the entrance of Coca Cola. The attendants will say to pay at the second level which may seem confusing as you look for the place to pay but what you need to do is leave the parking garage 2nd level and walk across the lawn to the other side to the ticket booth even if the line of people is as long as the whole circle. The line moves along at about 30 to 40 minutes if you start all the way near where the parking garage exit is which is where we started.
Yes there are two movies and lots to explore. We did it in 3 hours. I did not enjoy the sticky floor in the tasting room but I found that my shoes didnt seem to be sticky once I left that room. I loved the Mango flavored Iced Tea or Nestea... then I was off to the gift shop. The kids loved it. (8 yr old, 11 yr old and two 16 yr olds)
I am not a big soda fan but it was a nice family thing to do that doesn't make you feel like you are forcing your teenager to do something with the family - if you know what I mean.
We went Black Friday. I thought everyone would be at the Mall. This was not the case. The place was packed but I didn't feel overwhelmed. They herd everyone along in a pre-determined pattern.
Buy tickets, wait on line, pass through security, wait in room with interestingly painted huge coke bottles and a wall of water(behind glass) that will attract every child, then into the first animated movie depicting a fantasy of what is happening when a coin is dropped in the slot for a soda. Then into a room for a bonding with your fellow tourists by yelling out what country you are from. Then coke trivia (sorry cant remember any of the questions or the answers). She may say you are split in teams and one side will win the free soda at the end but everyone wins... don't worry. Then you are herded into the winding history of memorabelia of Coca Cola. My favorite was about the signature that was used for the logo and the design of the bottle from a cocoa bean - by mistake. After that there is another movie, the tasting room and the gift shop. FYI - all of the stuff is online so you may want to look at it their first to save yourself some impulse buys.
I'm a big kid at heart so I really enjoyed the place. Their website says give yourself about 90 minutes to go through the place (that's if you walk straight through and don't really pay any attention to anything), but I spent about 2.5 hours in there. They have a very cute movie of what happens when you put your money in a Coca-Cola machine, a cool 4-D movie, get your picture taken with the Coca-Cola Polarbear, Memrobilia from around the world, a mini processing plant, and even a tasting room. They have 64 flavors from around the world. A couple of my favorites were the Sprite Ice, the Fanta Green Apple Kiwi, and Fanta Birch Beer (light rootbeer taste with a kick of wintergreen). The store at the end is more Coca-Cola Classic brand, I would have like to seen more Sprite/Fanta/etc. It was only $15 when I went (11/07/2008). It is next door to the Georgia Aquarium (my GPS had the wrong address, so if yours isn't right just plug in the Georgia Aquarium and you can get there). They did have a special of $36 for both Coca-Cola World and the Aquarium. Or you could get one of the City Pass books which was good for a few other places as well for one price (like the Zoo and Botanical gardens and some other stuff). The parking deck was a $10 flat for all day. It's also next to Centinial Park, the CNN Center, and the Georgia Dome.
One big add for Coke. They should pay you. Save your 26 bucks and when you get home buy 100 cans of coke and have something you can use for months instead of an hour of advertisement. The tasting room will stick with you as the drinks from around the world are vile. Your shoes will stick with you too as the floor is sticky with kid spills. What do you expect when you give a 7 year old a cup and 70 soda spouts.
Save your money or take the CNN tour across the street, twice .
