| About: | Boasting a full schedule of live music and DJs every night of the week, MJQ lounge and nightclub is a music lover's paradise. Each evening features a different music genre, from rock 'n' roll Mondays and hip-hop Thursdays, to reggae and Afro-fusion Fridays. MJQ also has a full bar and plenty of room for the crowds that come for the more popular acts. This club is a great place to go to check out local talent in the city. When I moved to the A, I frequented the club scene but I was not satisfied until I found MJQ.. I absolutely love that spot! I'm from NY i'm a child of old school hip hop and DJ Rasta Roots is killin it the second Friday of the month. Please don't come if your a wallflower this place is not for you. Serious dancers only please!
We love MJQ and Drunken Unicorn. Ever since the old days when MJQ was located under the Ponce De Leon Hotel, it's just been all about cool. With the addition of the Drunken Unicorn, the venue provides the perfect place for smaller/indie bands to play in Atlanta. Everyone from the infamous MF DOOM show here, to Judi Chicago, Har Mar Superstar, Silversun Pickups have all played here. The venue uses us, Ticket Alternative for their ticketing which saves you money. You can also buy tickets for most of their shows in person from Criminal Records, Ella Guru and Decatur CD.
Funky Vibe: First time in tha club and I would definitely go back. The club was small and could use some seating areas to take a break and chill in between. The cover charge was too high($18 for 2) for such a small place. And the parking ($10) was ridiculous because the club is really a hidden hole in the wall. But the crowd was mixed and funky and the music was fresh.A variety of remixes of techno, house, hiphop, rock, old skool played throught the night. And never a break in music.Just remember to keep comfortable dancing shoes in mind because the club is literally underground and your dancing on pavement.I would definitely luv to go back...but the parking and cover charges kill it.I would have not minded the charges for a much bigger and comfortable venue.
