| About: | This tiny storefront just off Highland Avenue brings a much-needed parlor to the trendy Highlands. There's not much to the place aside from a few tables, and most patrons take their Italian delights with them as they stroll the neighborhood. Italian ices, shakes, floats, and soft drinks are available, but the big seller is gelato. A few more extravagant creations are featured for the daring, including an ice-cream interpretation of fettuccine, which features custard ice cream with strawberry sauce and grated white chocolate. See website for a complete list of over 50 gelato flavors, catering details, clips of Paolo on the Food Network, gift certificates, an online gift shop, info on the Charleston location, and even a live in-store camera feed! |

NO NO NO!!! NOT worth the trip or hassle of getting there. Yes, I knew that the gelato was not going to be as good as real Italian gelato (which I ate every day in Tuscany), but this stuff was a joke. I got chocolate and mint chocolate gelato, and while I was expecting a rich flavor, I received NO flavor and ICE in my gelato. I drove four hours for this supposedly "amazing" gelato was was bitterly disappointed.
On the upside, the presentation of the shop is really nice. Paolo has gone to great lengths to have that authentic gelateria feel. Other than that, Bruster's or Baskin Robbins has a better product.
Paolo also has a gelateria in downtown Charleston, SC!
i live really close to there, i love his ice cream.
i even met him twice! =-) =-)
Yay for Paolo's!!!: I am so happy that there is such a charming little place to cool off in these hot ATL summers. The VA Highlands is one of my favorite neighborhoods, and it's nice to finish off dinner at one of the quaint restaurants with a delicious serving of gelato at Paolo's. I can't believe that there is even one review that would discourage folks from indulging in this fabulous establishment!
