I can't say enough about PFAH. I started taking my first corgi to them when Mark Lawson was still there. When he left I saw Dr Smith. They were both awesome.
I made the mistake of leaving them for a couple of years and had a pretty bad experience. I am now taking my second Corgi to Dr Miller and wouldn't have it any other way.
Today I saw Dr Mcdearmon becuase my kitty Ouzo had to be put to sleep. From the minute I called until the time I left everyone was very sensitive to both of our feelings.
I cannot recomment this practice highly enough!!!!!!!
I am writing to recommend PFHA because we have been with this practice in the very best and worst of times. We first began seeing Dr. Smith when we first had our Sheltie puppy, Kalli. When Kal was about 2-years-old she began to deteriorate and we could not understand why. Dr. Smith was amazing with her. He comforted all of us and diagnosed Kalli with Lyme Disease. Not only was he loving and caring, but he also spent as much time as we needed. He did not rush us at all. Another very important aspect was that he did not prescribe expensive unnecessary medications or try to guilt us into very expensive diagnostic tests. Almost a week-and-a-half ago Kalli, who is now almost 11, was let out to use the restroom and never came back up the stairs. Just 2 days later she was paralyzed in her back leg and her other back leg was beginning to not work. I made an appointment with Dr. Melissa McDearmon. I was very reluctant to see her because I really wanted to see Dr. Smith, but I needed someone to see her right away. They worked me into the schedule and I was seen minutes after I arrived. Dr. McDearmon was equally amazing. She said that I could have very expensive diagnostic tests done to determine if Kalli had a tumor or a disc problem (around $3,000) but told us that the cause didn't matter and treatment would be no different. She never made me feel awful or that I didn't care for Kalli (which many vets do). Very very sadly, Kalli has gotten worse and is not going to recover. She is a part of our little family and my husband and I had her before we were married. As anyone who has ever lost a pet knows, this is an incredibly difficult time. Dr. McDearmon was the epitome of compassion. She hugged me, was very kind to my daughter and was available for many phone consultations as Kalli health continues to worsen. I could not recommend PFAH more. They are not only amazing doctors, but they are also caring, compassionate, loving, and sympathetic.
All the doctors at PFAH are wonderful. I have been taking my dogs to see them for 11 years now. When I first got my pup, my former vets staff said she had an irregular heartbeat & some other non-sense. I was so outraged that a brand new puppy could have a problem so serious. She was obtained through a reputable breeder. I called the breeder & she told me to take her to her vet - PFAH. I never went back to my old vet & my dog did not have anything wrong with her heart. They actually love dogs/pets here. I think for some vets medicine is just a means to an end. All the docs are wonderful at PFAH & most will let your dog stay on the floor while they examine them. My dog hates going to the vet, but LOVES to give Doctor Smith some sloppy sighthound kisses!!! Oh yeah... they are also real knowledgable about sighthounds!
After 12 years of working with our local vet when times got very bad he was not there for us. We contacted PFAH and worked with Dr. Miller. Extremely patient and compassionate, Dr. Miller, was there to help us in the most tragic of moments. Thank you for your wisdom.
