| About: | Hidden away in a shopping mall, this diamond in the rough serves traditional Chinese food prepared without meat or dairy products. The decor is not eye catching or unique, but veggie-loving locals don't seem to mind. All the Chinese standbys are on the menu, but no meat or eggs are used in preparation (except in the fortune cookies). Beef dishes such as Mongolian beef are prepared with soy products without giving up much in taste. This restaurant is great for both the avid vegetarian and skeptical meat-eater who needs some convincing. |

I found the restaurant to be clean and the service to be courteous and efficient. What really stood out, was their menu. It is either ingenious or prevaricated, and that depends how you read it, i.e. SHREDDED PORK WITH PEPPER, FILLET OF FISH WITH BLACK BEAN SAUCE, LAMB WITH STRING BEANS, ad infinitum. But, in reality what you really get is tofu prepared dozens of different ways. The food was passable, but nothing that I would come back for. We had the chicken (yea) with cashews, sweet and sour shrimp (right) and steamed dumplings. At the end of the meal I was full but not satisfied. Would I go back... nah. Just a So-So place.
The food is copius, tasty and affordable, the location, decor and cleanliness are lacking.
I highly recommend the straight vegetarian food. The hot and sour soup was fantastic as was their lo mein. The dumplings tasted too doughy and I didn't really care for the filling. General Tso's chicken was very tasty, but the mock meat failed. It tasted like fried batter and a really nice sauce. Their was nothing to bite into as I was hoping for reading past reviews. The clientel seemed to be all repeats, and ran the whole racial spectrum which was really cool. I will definitely return but will order more of the straight Chinese vegetarian, no mock stuff.
Awesome: Unfortunately, I don't get to Atlanta often, but when I do, I always visit Harmony. I'm a lacto vegetarian, so I'm not too keen on my food looking and tasting like meat, but I love this restaurant. I've never tried anything on the menu that I didn't enjoy, and the hot and sour soup is my favorite comfort food. Admittedly, the location is not glamorous and the decor is very simple, but it's clean and quiet and the food is excellent. Simplicity has its own value.
