User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsA great place for a quick bite to eat. If you've ever lived in Europe then you understand the service at this place! It's definitely in the no-frills cafe, by American standards. The food should more than make up for any complaints! The tortes are amazing, as is the bread. And no refills? That's the European standard. The owner was super-friendly and very talkative-- I don't understand where the complaints are coming from! In fact, my only complaint at all with my visit was the table of rude Americans complaining about the no refills and counter service. *eyeroll*
Hofer's is a superb bakery and a nice stop for a snack on a lazy afternoon of strolling through picturesque Helen, GA.-

Don't order from Hofers. We ordered pretzel rolls. We ordered 2 boxes, one to be shipped to our son serving in the Army. Hofers sent regular pretzels. We called and they said the owner would need to get back with us. We called everyday and did not speak to the owner for another week. When we did speak with the owner he told us they sent the right order and if we were not happy we should send the order back. We explained that since he did not get back with us in an orderly fashion that we did not have the pretzels anymore. Also, our son did not receive his order for 2 entire weeks, and his order was molded when it arrived. We paid for next-day shipping. Hofers sent it ground. We disputed the charge, and the owner of Hofers told the credit card company that he immediately returned our call and did everything possible to help us. That was a lie. We will never eat there or order anything from Hofers again.

Long line, so come early. SO WORTH THE WAIT. Great food and service.
