Our experience at Amici's in downtown Madison was one of shock and dismay. The service took way too long on a Tuesday night, and the waitress made us feel less than hospitable, in fact, she was extremely rude and acted as if SHE was the Proprieter.
We waited up to one hour before finally getting an opportunity to order.
When the meal finally came, it was just 'warm' and I couldn't believe anyone could prepare such a dissatisfactory dish from their menu, because for all the time it took to wait, my order of Angel-Hair Pasta with prosciutto and artichokes was totally unprepared with what appeared to be the prosciutto cooked and overdone beforehand, and the artichokes appeared to have been the ones you find at the supermarket in a can, which was thrown in with all the water from inside the can, raw and uncooked or prepared prior to adding it to the pasta to eat, and all you could taste was the watered down pasta instead of what should have been cream sauce.
A total catastrophe for the price they charge.
The waitress who we had that night should either be properly trained, or if she doesn't like serving the public, should look into some other profession. In any case, the Owner should rethink that employee's position, and try to hire friendly and more experienced waitresses who are more than willing and eager to welcome the customers.
This waitress did NOT receive a tip from us, and I hope she is smart enough to figure out why.
Grade : F
Horrible food, service, cost.
I hate to write this since I want downtown Madison to do well, BUT.
In 2006 I moved to Madison and LOVED going to Amici's. Then in late 2007 I stopped going, because something changed there.
QUALITY: Pizza's became greasier, the crust was so thin you couldnt pick it up, and the taste/quality of everything went down as well. Then just recently (October 2009) my husband and I decided to give it another try.
SERVICE: Right away the service was HORRIBLE. Our waitress kept ignoring us and seemed very disgruntal. The owner even came out to help but even the owner had the same attitude. Just to order took a half hour, then another hour just to get our food.
COST: Prices are decent for some items such as sandwiches and salads, BUT to get a calzone it cost you the calzone (which includes only cheese) PLUS a $1.50 for EACH TOPPING. THEN, if you enjoy Wine, don't order a "GLASS" unless you're ready to be sammed. We only received half a glass (which was about 1/2 cup) and was charged $7.
Never again will I eat at Amicis.
Outrageous pizza and wings - fun place - we had a great time.
