| About: | This casual dockside restaurant claims to be where the elite eat in their bare feet and it is likely that patrons will also eat with their bare hands. Low Country Boil of shrimp, corn, potatoes, and smoked sausage is a local tradition. Oysters are offered steamed or raw. The Capt'n Crabs Sampler Platter is piled high with seasonal shellfish. Outdoor seating on the patio and indoor dining on a huge screened porch provides a pleasant view of Chimney Creek. Both areas are armed with fans to keep you cool. |

We went to Savannah on a mini vacation and read about the Crab Shack online. It seemed cool and we could bring our dogs so we decided to go. The service was ok, but the atmosphere was pretty cool. It was overlooking the water with fans outside to keep you cool. Unlike a lot of the reviewers, we liked how the trash can was in the middle of the table, it made discarding our shells easy and ours was clean with a fresh bag in it when we sat down. The cats didn't bother us or our dogs. We thought the portions were good for the price and the food tasted pretty good, I've had better, and the shrimp were not deveined. The problem is that I came down with marine toxic food poisoning later that evening, which lasted a couple days. It was the worst feeling, and the doctor said my seafood was probably sitting out for a while before I ate it. Maybe they should pay a little more attention to what they are doing back in the kitchen. I'm not sure what their sanitation rating is, but we probably won't eat there again since I became so violently ill afterwards. It ruined the rest of our vacation. It might be worth a visit if you've never been, but be very careful about what you order. If it isn't piping hot when it gets to your table, send it back!
We went to vacation to Savannah,GA and we saw several advertisements for the Crab Shack. We thought it would be good so we went there. First, the food was expensive for the food you get. The food did not taste very fresh. The flies were horrible. The bathrooms were smelly and disgusting. There were stray cats everywhere. It is really a shack! Do not eat at the Crab Shack!!!
This restaurant was recommended to us by a local. We were very disappointed. The food was just average at best. The cole slaw was terrible. They put so much old bay seasoning on the crab legs and shrimp that it was impossible to eat them without being a mess. The trash cans in the middle of the tables were less than appetizing. The place just smelled bad. Overall the experience was the worst we had while vacationing in the Savannah area.
