We vacationed on St. Simons Island for the first time. Everyone told us to go eat at the Crab Trap. Well, we have dined there twice - our first and last time! The spacious dining area you see in the picture is very deceiving. The tables are so close together, you can hear the conversations of all those sitting around you. The hostess sat two different parties near our table, bumped into me both times, and said absolutely nothing! The menu advertises seafood fried, broiled, grilled, or blackened. But, beware! There is an additional charge if you don't want it fried. Want salad instead of cole slaw? Extra charge. Can't eat an entire entree yourself or on a tight budget and want to share with another in your party? Extra charge. Granted, the food is good. But, you can get good food other places. And, possibly experience respect from the hostess and not pay extra for every little thing! Never again!
Superb. If you're looking for fresh seafood w/a casual ambiance and prompt, friendly and attentive service then this is it.
View of a Native: I grew up on St. Simons and am now 60+ years old. For great fried shrimp, you just can't beat the Crab Trap. It's often crowded and that may cause some problems, but get there early with an attitude of "just taking it easy" and you'll get good food, drink and friendly service. The hush puppies are out of sight and you get very, very generous portions.
