I have been going to Mori for many years now. The food started out great, but there has been a steady decline in quality. The sushi is hard pressed to stay together and most of the time is only average. I took my family in last week to eat at the grill, and our server, Cat, when asked by a small girl what her name was, said, "Cat, like the animal." She then proceeded to put up two fingers like ears to explain further. I hate to admit it, but that was probably the most enjoyable thing I saw that night. Our chef hardly interacted with us. His food was alright, but I was expecting a show! Nothing about it impressed me. It has a very cramped atmosphere and the woman who seated me had a scowl on her face the whole time. The only good thing about it was the fact that there was no wait. Now I don't have to ask why!
Mori gets high praise from the locals for serving delicious food, with excellent service, in a pleasant atmosphere. BUT, don't be too quick to follow ill advice. Mori is simply not that great. The food is average, but for the price it leaves you less than satisfied. The atmosphere is not all that exotic, squeezed between a tanning salon and a gym. If you become overly hot, or the smell of gas grills becomes too much, the owners are quick to dismiss you in favor of other customers. It is clear in this establishment that money is number one, and customers are only catered to as a means of lining their own pockets. A few underhanded tricks to save money include charging for birthday celebrations, serving meager salads, filling non refillable drinks like Shirley Temples and juices with an excessive amount of ice in a glass that is much smaller than anyone else's. And to top it off, their establishment is infested with roaches and mice. My friend Dianne had a mouse crawl over her foot in the Sushi area. Another friend of mine who once worked there told me how often they would fish a roach out of the soup and continue to serve it. She was not fired or disgruntled, by the way. I plan never to eat there again, and to keep my friends, family, and community members away. The only reason I can think of for Mori being at all popular in Valdosta is perhaps because the people there have not ventured out into the world much. There are better priced, friendlier Japanese restaurants! I recommend Ichiban, or going out of Valdosta.
YUMMY after all these years! I've never had bad service and the food is always great. And speaking of the food, you will not leave hungry.
