I too was raised in Albany and Jimmie's hotdogs are the best in the world. On a scale of one to ten, they are nothing short of a 10 plus. This is the only hotdog that I could eat non-stop and never get tired of the taste. I would buy them by the bag full and it was something about the smell that made them irisistable. Since leaving Albany back in the late 70's, I have lived all over the world but no hotdog has come close to competing with Jimmies. Restaurants and fast food joints have come and gone in Albany but Jimmies is still going strong. Although I don't eat beef or pork anymore, I would break down and eat a Jimmies hotdog if I had the chance to pass through Albany. What I like about Jimmies is despite the owner - Mr. Poulous - being white, he set his shop up in Harlem across from the bus station and served blacks and whites equally even when there were serious racial tensions in the city during the 1960's. As far as I am concerned, Jimmies should be turned into a national landmark. Those hotdogs put a lot of smiles on thousands of faces for decades on end and it is the one place where the races converged with one purpose in mind - to make their stomaches rejoice!!!

I had my first Jimmies over 45 years ago. Loved em ever since.
Everytime I go through Albany on the way to Panama City or Mexico Beach now I stop and get at least 2 sackfuls and some grape sodas.
Man, I wish I had some right now.
