Bretts has the best food in Fernandina! You have to try their Spinach Artichoke dip, I don't even like that dip but I couldn't stop eating their SA dip.
OMG!!! Brett's has the most delicious muffins. I ordered the infamous Shrimp n Grits, and my friend ordered the Salmon. The S&G were amazingly tasteful. My friend kept excitingly going on about the salmon, so I tried it against my will (salmon is not my thing), but that's the ONLY salmon I've had and begged for more! After tasting that I became open to salmon, but NONE has compared to Brett's. I was so good and addictive; we went back the next day just to experience that Heaven on Earth ambience and taste. That day we had Manhattan Chowder, Crab n Artichoke Dip, and more....you guessed it SALMON!!! Oh, and the service was really great!! Thanks to the entire staff and the friendly locals who recommended it. The Island is just wonderful!!!
Reviewers: CA grandparents-SFO to JAX to Amelia Island. We were attracted down to the W end of Center St of historic Fernandina to the sunset blazing at waterfront. Expecting nothing special, we found a veranda with roof-top pelicans watching the sunset watchers, wicker rockers and outdoor tables facing the sunset, all served from the bar just inside Brett's. Admittedly, we never actually dined (45 min Waiting list) @ Brett's because we were so blown away by the food and wine available from the bar (yes they had hard liquor drinks and beer, too. A neophyte, I wasted one alcoholic beverage on a beer.). We had some of the best flavored seafood (crab cakes, mussels), breads (3 kinds of hot dinner rolls baked on site) and vegetables (batter fried green tomatoes-mmm) and cabernets (AUS Matolo Jester McLaren Vale 2004 and Thorn Clarke Terra Barossa 2004--both 90pts). The mixed-green salad was pretty good, too, but it paled in comparison. There are many famed restaurants on Amelia Island, but we could not help return to Brett's bar for a second wine and food sunset. The reviewer above, who gave 2 stars to Brett's, must have been the same snob just down the bar from me who was bemoaning the mediocrity of the 3 wines in front of him, one the same as one of ours. Our wines were exquisite! The Wine Spectator gives Brett's "Outstanding Wine List" certificates every year from 2002 to 2007. We got the ambience of the wharf at sunset, the camaraderie at the veranda and bar with friendly patrons and service folks, plus great food and drink. Probably, Brett's is great for a sit down meal with actual entrees, but I can only rave about the evenings of unexpected and intense pleasure via Brett's bar, the way the wife and I enjoyed them
