| About: | Maria Bonita, open for lunch and dinner, is considered by locals as the only area restaurant serving authentic Mexican and Cuban cuisine. It's also hailed as "the home of the real Margarita." The ambience is casual but classy enough to present live harp music Thursday through Saturday nights. The menu is familiar--quesadillas, tamales, chimichangas, fajitas, enchiladas, chiles rellenos and chicken mole--but everything is guaranteed homemade. There is fried ice cream for dessert. |

The whole rustic Mexican theme seems a little worn out to me at this point, (there's only a bazillion other resturaunts here in FL with the same idea) but the newly redecorated Maria Bonita is one of the nicer ones with a LOT of beautiful tile. Although this is certainly a casual, family type restaurant, it somehow seems just a tick up the scale compared to most of the other local Mexican resturaunts. 'Probably just the nice surroundings.
Service seems to be OK and the food, although pretty much just standard Mexican fare, is very good with decent prices.
If you are looking for a great, authentic Mexican restaurant with decent service TURN AROUND AND RUN AWAY!!! The cheese dip was melted CHEDDAR cheese, and was impossible to scoop with a tortilla chip. When we asked the server (Valentin) what the deal was he looked at us like we were crazy and offered no remedy. The manager finally checked on us and after insisting that he could "fix" it by adding cream, we had to just tell him to take it off the check. The chicken soft taco that was brought to the table was actually a BEEF soft taco, unfortunately no one checked on us after the food got to the table so that never got remedied either. And, throughout the meal no one stopped to see if we needed anything; instead they made eye contact, smiled and walked away. I will NEVER go back to this "restaurant" and would not EVER recommend it to a anyone that asked. I am a veteran server myself and am completely appalled at the operation and service of this establishment!!!
The Cheese dip it takes 25 minutes to get it, the fajitas are oranges juice fajitas, the owner is rude with the people and the margaritas taste like water, sorry but I will never come back.
