The facilities were excellent... I loved that they had a designated kid fun area to reduce the amount of annoying, misbehaving kids running around. It really does help to not have screaming, splashing, kicking kids all over the place. It's an absolutely huge hotel. The lobby area is really nice, and the courtyard behind the motel is a pleasant sight with the old clock tower and the ocean walk area.
There are some things that you should know before you book this hotel or go down there. The first is that you do pay to park... $9 a day, and that is parking across the street behind the Hog Heaven BBQ restaurant. If you don't like that, you can have your car parked Valet for about $10 more per day. If you stay in the south tower, you're next to the "slingshot" attraction, which up until about midnight can grace your evening with the sound of young girls screaming "Oh my God!" at the top of their lungs. If you are going to the beach, watch where the umbrella rental guy sets up... if the tide is coming in, you really need to set up behind where he puts the umbrellas. We watched many people learn this the hard way as they would go off into the ocean and return to stuff that was in the surf. The tides come up to right where the umbrellas are. I couldn't figure the elevators out... because sometimes it would require you to insert your key to use it, other times it wouldn't. The restaurant has you paying a lot of money for not a lot of food... if you insist on eating breakfast there, you're much better off going for the buffet. It's not much extra, and it's your best chance at getting your money's worth. If you order pancakes, and want the cherries... bear in mind that they will give you Marischino Cherries, rather than cherry pie filling. The balconies are about a foot wide, so you're not going to be able to go out onto them beyond that first step.
Some of the other positive features are that all rooms are inside rooms...when you step out, you're not stepping out to the outdoors. The air conditioning is a central heating and air system, with a digital thermostat. The oceanwalk area is a nice place to take an evening stroll. Summer saturdays have fireworks at about 9:45... which if you're in the south tower facing the pier, you have a really good view of them. The hotel is right in the middle of Daytona Beach, with good access to the main heart of Daytona. If you're in the lobby at the right time, they have little sampler platters where you can try a mini-cheesecake bite or something else. If you're willing to walk just a little bit, you can walk to a 7 Eleven and get some 2 liters and snacks for a much better deal than anything the hotel is selling.
Overall, it's a nice facility. My main recommendation would be that it's good for a weekend getaway, or some other short stay... if you had to stay there all week, it would bleed your bank account dry, and some of the hotel features would become annoying (like the elevators).
NEVER, I REPEAT NEVER eat at Doc Bales' Grill located in the Hilton. It looks soooo nice in the travel brochures that are in every room in Daytona. It boasts a buffet in a "fine dining" atmosphere. HA! We arrived and our hostess took us on a "tour" of the buffet (which looked appetizing). that is until she picked up a hush puppie and took a bite with her bare hands to see if "they needed to be replenished". Still, we stayed (should have ran). I watched as two kids stuck their hands into all the deserts and left them on the buffet. At the point when the kids sampled everything and sneezed all over the food, i asked for the manager! I did not eat my food, yet i had to pay $77 for our meal even after i talked to the manager. Save yourself and skip this one. I have had better dining experiences at McDonald's!!!!!
This is the worse Hilton EVER!!!!! Trust I used to work there.
