BEWARE!!! If you take it to AAMCO because they are a national chain and think they won't rip you off, think again.
Nice man will tell you "bring it in, we'll do a free check". A few hours later you'll get a call telling you "our top notch techs looked at it and it looks like it'll run around $1,400... but we won't know for sure until we take it apart and do a thorough investigation". You'll get a call the next day telling you "unfortunately, you had more damage than we originally thought. You need one of these gizmos you know nothing about, and a couple of these whatchamacallits you don't know anything about... looks like it'll run you around $2,400". If you say no thanks, just put it back together, they have you for $700 labor (and that doesn't even include putting your transmission back together!). If you don't have the money, they'll "conveniently" find a used transmission (probably sitting in their back room from some previous customer who thought their transmission was totaled and needed replaced) and tell you we can install this gently used transmission for only $1,500. And all the while, nice man will keep telling you "I'm doing everything I can to work with you". "How about I throw in a free extended warranty"?
Immediately following AAMCO's top notch repair of my transmission, my transfer case started to leak!
I'm an engineer and was an aircraft mechanic for over 6 years and I'd STRONGLY recommend taking your vehicle somewhere else. Ask around, read reviews, there are honest local mechanics in the area that do good work. I wish I would have.
I would have selected 0-stars, but 1 star is the lowest I can select.
