My sorority had a homecoming function with a fraternity at Gator Joe's, and it was not a good experience. The place itself is beautiful. However the staff and service are some of the worst I have ever had.
We paid for an "all-night" unlimited bar tab. When we show up, the manager told us that "all-night" actually means until midnight, because after that, Gator Joe's become a cash-only bar. So everyone got stuck there, paying for drinks we already paid for, with cash they had to get from ATMs.
But here is the real kicker: the female bartenders would not serve me. They would serve any male patron, while trying to flirt for tips and even taking shots while behind the bar. I waited for about 20-25 minutes, while they served every single man around me. I had cash in my hand, willing to pay, but every single bartender had a terrible attitude and I had to request to speak the manager in order to get one drink.
It's such a shame that this establishment is in such a great location but is so poorly-run. I would not recommend this place to ANYONE. In fact, my advice is to avoid this bar.
Gator Joe's is a great place to eat and hang out. My cousin has a lake house 5 houses to the West and we sit out on his dock at night and listen to the music coming from Joe's. Great food and since I'm from FL and spent a lot of time there eating gator and frog legs I can honestly say these are the best I have ever had. Let the kids play in the lake with the ducks while the adults sit on the patio and get lit, then just take the golf cart about 30secs back hom, what more could you ask for?
Service is so-so as it sometimes seems like they are acting like they're doing you a favor by taking your food or drink order so I just get my own drinks from the bar. They were really accomodating when we had a 50 or so person wedding party show up and everything went great. I can't wait to go back and veg out at Weir again, hit up Gator Joe's and maybe take another trip up Silver Springs.
Whether you go by car or boat, Gator Joes is always a good time. Great food and friendly folks. You have to try to fried jalepeno slices.
