Let me start by saying that the personnel at Jacksonville Powersports "seemed" to be 2nd to none. However, I recently took my 2007 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 in for some warranty work. My bike had, and still has an excessive tick from the engine. I took it in to them and had the service advisor listen to it and asked his opinion. He said it did sound a little loud and that they should take a look at it. I left it with them and a few days later they called and said they had checked the valve clearance and that they were in spec. They then asked me what kind of oil I was using, I told them kawasaki 10w40 as recommended in the owners manual. They told me I should be running 20w50 due to the southern heat. Sounded reasonable, and even though the oil was just changed 200 miles prior, I gave my authorization to them to change the oil. They called back and said the oil change corrected the problem and I could come pick up my bike. My total for repairs was $280.00 some dollars. I said: Excuse me!!!? $280.00 dollars for an oil change!!!? The responded by telling me because they didn't find any problems with the valve clearance, that I was responsible for the labor time it took to check them. I just happen to work in the automotive industry as a service advisor, and I can tell you this is not how things work. When you have a warranty concern and the dealership agrees that there is a problem and they do diagnostic work, there is no charge to the customer regardless of weather or not they find a problem. By the way, the tick is still there, the oil change fixed NOTHING!!! I could go on, but at this point its like beating a dead horse. As far as the sales and parts departments, I'm not sure how they are to deal with. I was going to find out because my wife wants a bike and I was going to purchase one from them for her. And I was going to purchase some Vance and Hines pipes from the parts dept for my bike. But because the service manager was unreasonable and refused waive the charges that should have been covered under warranty, that dealership has lost ALL my business forever!!! All this over what should have been a warranty repair. Oh, and by the way, the service advisor admitted to me that she never even call Kawasaki for any kind of approval for work to be performed. That, ladies and gentlemen, is why they wanted to charge me for the time their technician had into working on the bike. Beware when visiting their service dept. Not the most honest bunch of people I've ever delt with.
P.S.
I was told by a lot of biker friends that US 1 Powersports in St. Augustine is the place to deal with. Great rep with very knowledgeable service people. And best of all, they are HONEST! Good Luck!
