I do not even know where to begin. Last May I was married in Shell Point. Not being from the area I had to ask around to find a restaurant to hold my rehearsal dinner. After being referred to Food Glorious Food restaurant by a reliable source I decided to take a leap of faith and order our rehearsal invitations listing FGF as the venue. That being said, March 21, 2009 while in Tallahassee to finalize wedding plans, my fiancé and I decided to try the restaurant we had chosen for our rehearsal dinner. We chose to sit outside (according to our receipt we were at table 3/1) and the food was alright. Unfortunately, the evening as a whole was enough to make me want to call every guest and make other arrangements for our rehearsal dinner. Our evening included but was not limited to our drinks (which took entirely too long to receive in the first place, seeing as they were water and a tea) only being refilled once and ONLY when I asked (despite our waitress and other employees walking by multiple times...with the table holding your water and tea pitcher DIRECTLY behind us), after the initial refills our drinks were left empty the remainder of our meal. My fiancé also ordered a beer and when it was empty he was never offered another. Our table was left unbussed for extended periods of times (again, there was NO lack of able bodied employees who could have rectified this problem). We waited (and yes, at this point I was literally taking notes) 21 minutes for our entrees to come out after we had finished our appetizers. Then, to finish this horrendous evening off when our server was taking dishes off of our table she spilt the dishes, food went flying everywhere, and she said 'oops'. NO attempt to clean the food was made, not even a simple apology! Due to the fact she did not introduce herself at the start of the evening we did not know our server's name until we received the check.
My fiancé told me to sleep on it and call the next day, which I did. I spoke with a manager who was seemingly sympathetic and assured me I would be happy with the remainder of my dealings with FGF. Well, I was also told in that conversation that I would receive a call the next day regarding my rehearsal dinner. 3 days later, no call had been received and I had to contact THEM. I spoke with a manager about the rehearsal dinner and was told to call back 1 week before the rehearsal to finalize the menu, which I did. I was told the restaurant would print up special menus only offering the choices I had made.
Fast forward to the rehearsal dinner. First thing I see is the server we had the first night coming toward us (I was assured MULTIPLE times she would not be one of our servers!!!). I am hoping she is just helping get waters for everyone. I was wrong, she was our main server. When we were seated at our tables they gave us the regular menus. They had never printed up our menus, and furthermore knew nothing of our wedding party or of the issues I had, or promises that had been made. Evidently the information never got passed along because both of the managers we had dealt with quit just that week. AMAZING!!! So, since they were not prepared for us our food took forever and the service was horrible. If it was just a night out I would have been upset, but spending $2,000 on a horrible rehearsal dinner AND with not even an apology?!?!?!
This is probably my favorite restaurant in Tallahassee. I live in Thomasville and only drive down for work events or to meet up with old college buddies occasionally, but this place is worth the drive.
There is not much by way of Tallahassee for gourmet food, but FGF has certainly left an impression. The location could be better, as it sits in a somewhat dead mini-plaza, but with Manor at Midtown and Paradise right down Thomasville Road, it's the percfect place to stop and eat before a night out.
My wife has already requested we come back for our anniversary.
Really good food. Not exactly inexpensive, but well worth it. Great outside seating.
