While travelin across the panhandle we stopped in at the Cape San Blas inn. Nice place. Nice people. They told us that we should go to the Loggerhead Grill for dinner.
They were right. It is the best place we have eaten on the entire trip in Florida's Forgotten coast.
The next night we went to some place with an Irish name-O malleys? and it was so bad we went to loggerhead grill again the next night and forgot our mistake from the night before.
C-Ya!
Maybe it was the weather or just a great day on the bay scallopin' but or dinner tonight was fantastic.
Just great food. Good music a nice server. What else is needed to finish off a great day.
I know the kids loved the food. My oldest said the cowboy steak might have been the best thing he has eaten since the fourth of July bbq we had last summer. Those porterhouse steaks were good. My wife had the seafood combination platter that had all the good stuff. Big and tasty. Lightly breaded yet crunchy. She had a glass of Conundrum and thought it was the highlight of the night.
Myself, the sushi was just a starter course but, it was so big I ended up sharing it. The chef special that the waitress told us to order was a crabcake. "Just one I said, yeah that is all you need. It is a jumbo cake." And it was. Tenderly falling apart with just a touch from the fork, and the sauce-a grainy mustard buttery cream sauce.
I know it is a local place but this isn't just a local favorite, it is now ours.
We were spending time out on the north Florida's Riviera-Cape San Blas, and were growing a little homesick because there was nothing to do at night.
We thought we would do the tourist thing in Apalachiciola, then Port St. Joe and then again in Panama City. Althought most of them had their own certain flair, I thought that one of the most curious places we found was a small restaurant out on the cape a few miles from the St. Joe Park/campgrounds. This was the spot where we wanted to be. Close to all the convinces yet far enough off the beaten path to make it feel as though we were the only people on the pure white sand beaches.
Loggerhead Grill was on the road to the camp grounds and only a few minutes outside Port St. Joe off hwy 30. Although a little secluded this is a perfect location. Once we went right by the place without seeing the small sign out front, but the next time we went by noone could miss the place, with all the cars parked outside and across the street. It looks as though they play to packed houses on most nights of the week.
Being in the mood for a little comfort food once in a while, we found thier menu extensive-for this area-and they had just what we were looking for. It reminded us that vacation dining does not have to mean hamburgers, ice cream and pizza. The chef specials were amazing but the desserts were to die for.
I thought our server did a great job considering the place was busy. It seems as though the word is out on this place. Locals and tourist were lining up outside the door to get in. Luckily there are games and activities out front for the kids to play with while waiting to be seated.
We loved the food. Nice place inside queit cozy. I think this should be a place you want to try.
