**I had to write an evaluation of a restaurant for a class so i figured why not also submit it as a review**
We entered in the rugged nautical themed restaurant expecting a mediocre dining experience and we were exceptional surprised. My family tends to get a bit on the loud side when we go out to dinner so we prefer to be sat in a corner so we wont disturb those around us. As all eight of us approached the friendly hostess expecting a wait, we were immediately sat in a large round table in the corner of the room with a wonderful view of the ocean. Our young and very personable server Ben quickly greeted us. After a wonderful introduction and menu presentation he took our drink orders and had our waters our right away. As a waitress I understand the aggregation some tables can cause, but Ben had a great attitude with our rowdy group all night long. He patiently waited as we took twice as long as necessary to order our meals, skipping around from person to person instead of going in order. He willing re explained meals to us and laughed along with our silliness. Due to the wonderful service we had already received, the meal wouldnât have to be perfect to enjoy our night out at Captain Daveâs.
Like most restaurants the salads and bread arrived quickly after our meal was taken, however I took advantage of the soup of the day and ordered New England clam chowder. Everyone else reported that their salads were phenomenal even my younger brothers who typically never eat salad scarfed theirs up; with the wide array of options of dressings everyone was happy. I was extremely satisfied with my choice to get the creamy and delicious clam chowder. Although I didnât eat the bread, my brothers filled up on it before their meal came and even asked to take some home with us. About fifteen minutes later our meal promptly arrived just as we had ordered. We all ordered different items on the menu so we all got a taste of eight different meals; all wonderful. Each meal came with two hush puppies on the side, which was a scrumptious surprise. I ordered the grilled grouper with a side of cream spinach. Both items on my plate were wonderful. No oneâs fish was too fishy, no ones sides were too dry, and all eight of us enjoyed our meals very much. So much that we boxed everything not eaten up to go home and ate it the next day for lunch.
Our adventure getting to this restaurant ended up taking us about an hour and a half with all the detours and dead ends, so to our best knowledge this was some crazy hidden eatery. As we left the premises, we left a different way we had come suddenly realizing that we were right next to our condo on the beach. The crazy route we had taken previously led us through a neighborhood, and we were assuming we would never find it again or even try due to it being so far away. But now that we realized this fantastic restaurant was basically in walking distance we will perhaps venture over there again before we head home at the end of the week.
Our encounter at Captain Daveâs exceeded our expectations in every way service, food and atmosphere. Itâs not just anyone who can patiently wait on my family and keep up with our rambunctious personality but our server did just that. We luckily got lost and were able to stumble on to this great restaurant which immediately raised our standards for dining out here in Destin.
We read several reviews giving negative feedback to Capt. Daves. Although apprehensive we found none of the feedback to be accurate. The service was excellent, prompt with only a short wait to be seated. As usual those who have a gripe post and we who are happy just keep it to ourselves.
The fried green beans with Wasabi sauce was killer! You need to try it.
Going to Captain Daves has been a family tradition once each summer since 1986. We have always recieved satisfactory seafood. Even though some days during the week are crowded we have enjoyed the view of the ocean as we ate.
