For us locals the Petro is an oasis offering fuel, cool drinks, and a trucker restaurant where truckers can dine in a selected section or can mingle with the rest of us. In the morning they offer a breakfast buffet - eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, homefries, etc. and the "make your own belgian waffles" like you see in some hotels now.
At lunch time, the buffet features a salad bar which at first was dissapointing to me, since I moved here from a metropolitan area and was accustomed to the salad bar offerings at Whole Foods Market. In time, I came to accept it since I need some greens in my diet and the offerings are always fresh, the standard iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, potato salad, coleslaw, cottage cheese, etc. The hot food and soup bar are quite good, except when they have liver and onions (I'll never like those, but many folks love them). Sometimes they have beef brisket, which is my favorite, very tasty with gravy. The mashed potatoes are real and delicious, too. I like the shrimp, but have never tried the crayfish (not sure how to eat them) They also offer separate dinners of diner type food. I like that the waitress brings a tall glass of drink and also a refill pitcher to the table, so you don't have to go thirsty. I am a water drinker and this is a big plus for me. This truck stop has something for everyone, gifts, t-shirts, stuffed toys, trucker gadgets, etc and I enjoy going there and the people that work there are nice, too.
