We had a big lightening strike during a summer storm that killed our 1HP VIP control box. Neese came out to check out the pump and replace the damaged control box. This was an after hours job and we were happy to have our water back, however when we received the bill in the mail we were shocked at the overcharge. We checked prices for the same unit online and found it at half the price. A 25% markup is standard in the industry but a 100% mark-up is extreme. We called Neese to negotiate a change in this billing but even after three conversations with the woman who answers the phone, we never received a call back from anyone who would talk to us about this overcharge. It has been a month since this incident and we are still waiting. We paid the bill but will not call them again and have passed this story on to our neighbors.
Overpriced: The pump on my well failed last week. I called Neese because he was close and the person who installed my well was on vacation. He came out and determined the failure was due to an overload at the controller box. Since he was already there and my box was heavily rusted, I asked him to replace it. When the bill arrived a few days later, it was $363. I'd been expecting about half that, so I called several repair shops in the area. Estimates on installed prices ranged from $175 to $212.
Thinking that perhaps Neese had installed a high-end controller box, I looked up the model on the Web. I can purchase that box for $95. Neese should be able to get at least that good of a deal, so I was charged $268 for an hour of labor (as opposed to $80-117 from his competitors). I called Neese and explained my concerns. He said that $363 is what he charges all of his customers for a new control box. I told him that I'd write him a check in the morning, but that we'd never do business again. I was pleased with the work, but he's not worth paying two to three times what his competitors charge.
