| About: | Before the colossal structure known as the Regal South Beach Cinema came to dominate the industry, and long before drive-in cinemas, Paramount Studios opened the doors to the spacious Colony Theater. Since it's opening in 1934, this art deco movie theater has evolved into a bona fide performing arts venue, featuring a variety of productions including dance, opera, and theater. Occasionally, the house will have a preview showing of a Hollywood film, but for the most part, the building has graduated to a live theater house. Call for event information and schedule. The box office accepts only cash. In April, the theater hosts the annual Miami Latin Gay Film Festival . |

I attended the concert performance for the opera, Carmen last night and loved it! The theatre has recently been renovated and looks great! It is a small intimate arena with great views and seating no matter where you are seated.
I highly recommend this theatre and will certainly return for upcoming performances.
This could be a fantastic venue except:
* No website
* shows are poorly advertised
* box office doesn't answer phone
* box office sells tix only 2pm to 5pm
* chairs very uncomfortable, eventhough they are brand new ($6M renovation paid by tax payers).
* felt boards used to advertise to passerbys are always empty
* How does this place function as a legit business when they do not even have a website with a schedule of events! Colony is 100% city owned. I guess if it was privately owned it would run more efficient.
