Folks -- Those of you who enjoy Chinese food will find this report interesting. Diana and I stopped for dinner last night at King Super Chinese Buffet, located at Okeechobee Boulevard and Military Trail, where a mall once stood. The place is huge, with an impressive food variety. However, the food is bland and it's not kept hot. This is particularly noticeable with the soups. The reason for cold food is that the trays are very large therefore they are not refilled often. We tried the roasted duck and found it to be tough and greasy on top of being tasteless. We had a similar experience with the spare ribs. The in-shell shrimps were rather smaller than the ones offered in Chinese buffets near our complex. The chow mein (stirred fry noodles) were drenched in oil and they were cold. The tea was lukewarm, bitter and dark, ideal to be used in place of ink. But the most disappointing item was the fried rice. Most Chinese food lovers combine their servings with the crispy, skillfully cooked and tasty fried rice, garnished with bits of tender pork. The only two rice choices available were steamed white rice and plain yellow rice, the latter wrongly labeled as "fried rice". The absence of this basic Chinese delicacy was seriously detrimental to our appetite and detracted us from going back for more servings so we decided on having some fruit. There were slices of cantaloupe, honeydew and pineapple all hard and just as palatable as pieces of soap. We discovered that our punishment was not over when we decided to have ice cream. Big signs "Sorry, out of order" were atop the glass cases. Inside we could see amorphous masses resembling mashed potato. We could not take a chance eating that mess so we got ourselves some jello instead. At $13.00 per person, plus our time, tips and gas to get there, our Chinese meal was no bargain. Had this been the very first time that I was introduced to Chinese food --the best selling foreign food in the world-- I would have honestly said that I hated it. The only positive aspect of my visit to that grease joint was my ability to practice my Spanish; ninety-nine percent of the patrons and all the kitchen help who brought out the food trays were Hispanic. You are forewarned. Don't throw your money away! If you enjoy Chinese food, try Kingdom Buffet or New China Buffet instead, both located on Lake Worth Road.
This is the best chinese buffet ever, recession or not. Food is really affordable and there are plenty of choices, the taste is great. We go there often. My 2 year old has learned to picture read their sign and would not go any other place to eat out,not even with a happy meal.
Awsome food and selection! Can't beat the price for the kind of food they serve. Lots of Sea Food, Fish, Meat, Mixed Chinese dishes. Loads of Fruit, Salads, Veggies and Deserts. Their Icecream is just out of this world. Have got acquainted with the owners, they are great people. Always willing to help you. The place is clean and always looks well kept. We go there several times a week. The selection is so great that you don't have to eat the same food everytime you go.
Love this place, hope they never go out of business. TRY IT YOU WILL LIKE IT, ESPECIALLY LUNCH.
