Reviewed from Yahoo! Movies: Wonderful theatre...I love it! Should show some mainstream movies occasionally. More people will enjoy coming to this hidden jewel and help it survive economically .
What a jewel. I wish every film I went to see could be shown here. Parking ample. I only wish they would show a mainstream film once in a while, so that a wider audience can the the wonders of this venue.
First visit to the Tampa Theatre: Walking into the theatre was almost like walking back in time. The main foyer has a ceiling painted to look like the sky and it really feels like you're standing in an open air courtyard. Visiting the bathrooms in the basement gives the impression of descending into the catacombs. Ignore the small concession stand and pay attention to the art tiles, mosaics, stenciling, carved gargoyles, statuary and other artsy little touches that make this theatre authentic. You just don't see craftsmanship like that anymore. This is truly a vintage venue and one definitely worth visiting. I can't believe it took me this long to "discover" it.
