THE BEST VENUE FOR MUSICS OF ALL KINDS....
WMNF'S BEST SPOT, I HAVE BEEN GOING THERE SINCE 1987, ALWAYS GREAT REGGAE AND BLUES ETC....
LOVE IT!!!
This is one of the places I always take out of town folk. They are always shocked by the looks when we pull up; then they are amazed by the food and music.
It is the type of place that you take friends and make memories.
My wife, son, daughter-in-law and I dropped by Skippers Smokehouse on Thursday 03/06/08. We arrived at 6:45PM. Our waitress took our drink and appetizer orders and returned shortly with water we had requested. My first clue was the water was served in styrofoam cups. Shortly after that the clam strips and conch fritters arrived served on paper plates along with plastic forks, knives and spoons. The styrofoam and plastic though unusual wasn't the real problem.
The waitress took our dinner orders. I ordered the catfish and my daughter-in-law ordered the fried oysters. After about 10 to 15 minutes the waitress returned to inform us they were all out of catfish and didn't have the oysters either. Though dissappointed we re-ordered something else. After 1/2 hour I asked the waitress where the food was. She responded "we're working on it". We have now been seated for 45 minutes.
At 7:45PM now waiting an hour I again asked the waitress where the food was this time she said "it should be comming along soon"
A table across from ours with six folks had already been served. They had arrived about 20 minutes after we had been seated. I was surprised to see their meals served in styrofoam "take home" boxes. Needless to say we were not happy to see that type of servce.
At 8:00 PM now having 1hr 15min without our food and seeing how it was served we paid for our drinks and appetizers and left never having been served our dinners.
As to the quality of Skippers food I can only say the Conch fritters were primarily breading with very little conch. The clam stripps looked and tasted as if they were streight out of Mrs. Paul's Frozen Clam Strips. Actually I think Mr's. Pauls are better.
The show scheduled for that evening was cancelled. I suspect due to lack of patrons. During the entire time we were there I only saw the six other diners plus a small handful of folks at the so called "Oyster Bar".
Perhaps this was an off night for Skipper's. However, if this is the type of service and food quality they usually provide I don't think they will stay in business very much longer.
Needless to say I will NEVER go back there again and would be hard pressed to recommend Skipper's to anyone.
